Jessica Skinner is an Austin-based freelance writer and event planner available for hire and/or contract work.
In addition to my ongoing Hungry Hearted project, I provide music coverage and artist interviews for Austinist and Covert Curiosity, two highly regarded sources for local and international music news. In 2010 and 2011, I also contributed artist profiles for the SXSW Music Festival.
Beyond music and writing, I’m interested in event planning, farm-to-table potlucks, and reclaimed wood projects. While working at Birds Barbershop, I curated their premier art show in 2009. Two years later I co-coordinated the Storychord SXSW Day Party. I am currently the event planner at Texas Coffee Traders.
In my free time I host an informal potluck series called “Sunday Suppers,” which has steadily evolved into a monthly soiree centralized around a theme-ingredient challenge often paired with a backyard movie screening. Earlier this year my boyfriend and I launched HOMEGRAIN, a side project making chalkboards with reclaimed wood for custom orders.
